Pinnacle Competitive Team 2021: A Season in Review

Written by Hannah Thomas | Apr 13, 2021 6:56:08 PM

We are so grateful that we were able to have a competitive season.  Last year ended without State and Regional meets and it made us appreciate this year's State meet even more than normal.  For many of our gymnasts state marks the end of their season.  Take a look below to help us celebrate the accomplishments of the year.

Over the Year

Our gymnasts worked very hard to return to their competitive level after our two month closure due to COVID.  The girls were determined to be the best they could be regardless of the circumstances thrown their way.  They worked out at home and on Zoom.  They practiced social distancing and wore masks during practice.  They certainly proved they were committed to giving their all.

Throughout the course of the season we saw growth and improvement from all levels of our team.  Prior to State, we had seen 43 Pinnacle gymnasts place 1st in the all around and first place team finishes from our Level 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and Xcel Diamond teams at one or more competitions.

State Meet

The success of the season continued at the 2021 Kansas State Meet.  The State Meet took place March 26th-28th and we are so proud of all of our athletes!  The following results were achieved:

  • 23 Individual State Champions
  • 23 Podium Finishes on Vault
  • 24 Podium Finishes on Bars
  • 21 Podium Finishes on Beam
  • 18 Podium Finishes on Floor
  • 17 Podium Finishes in the All Around
  • 1st Place Level 9 Team
  • 1st Place Level 5, Level 8 and Xcel Diamond Teams
  • 3rd Place Level 3, Level 10, Xcel Silver and Xcel Gold Teams
  • Top 5 Finishes by ALL Pinnacle Teams!
  • Too many personal bests to count!

Regionals Bound

For level 7-10 and Xcel Platinum and Diamond Gymnasts the State Meet serves as a qualifying meet to Region 3 Regional Championships.  Regional meets consists of the top gymnasts from Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming.  It is a huge privilege to earn a spot to represent Kansas and Pinnacle .  Level 7 and 8 gymnasts qualify to their Regional Championships by earning one of the top All Around scores, while Xcel Platinum and Diamond athletes and Level 9 and 10 athletes earn their way by achieving a minimum of a 34.00 in the All Around.  This season once again proved to be a success with Pinnacle qualifying the most gymnasts in their history to the Regional Championships.  Pinnacle will proudly have 34 gymnasts competing in Regional meets.

Regional Qualifiers include:

Level 7 - Avery C, Presley H, Kasslynn H, Emma T
Level 8 - Raina C, Bella D, Ashley F, Kennedy H, Laney H, Payton S
Level 9 - Grace H, Lia L, Taylor W
Level 10 - Cassidy L, Amaiya M, Elyse P, Jenna W, Avery W

Xcel Diamond - Allison A, Lydia B, Paige F, Addison G, Emma M, Kadence P, Kaitlyn T

Beyond the Numbers

While medals and team banners are fun and exciting, success is not measured by scores or placements.  Success is much more!  Success is seeing gymnasts change from shy and nervous to confident and excited.  Success is seeing teammates turn into family.  Success is laughing, smiling, and making memories.  Success is being confident, resilient, and aiming for excellence.  We saw all of that.  We enjoyed a season full of positive coaching, happy gymnasts, and parents who were dedicated to supporting their gymnasts.  We couldn't ask for more than that!

A Look Ahead

For our regional qualifiers, there are still goals to accomplish this year and we wish them the best of luck.  As for our our other team members, they are ready to begin learning new skills and getting stronger for the next season.  Our athletes continue to amaze us as they grow, improve, and set new Pinnacle records each year.
