Meet Coach Emily

 Tell me about yourself.

My name is Emily Borchardt. I am 19 years old. When I was 16 I was bit by a copperhead snake. I was a gymnast for about seven years. I have been coaching gymnastics at Pinnacle for 2.5 years, I have coached a season of soccer, and I am a substitute para-professional for the USD232 school district. I enjoy reading, going to amusement parks, being outside, and spending time with children, family, and friends. I have an older sister that works at Pinnacle and a younger sister who I get the opportunity to coach here at Pinnacle. The sport of gymnastics is something that has been a part of my life since I was four years old!

Who is someone that helped you become the person you are today?

One person that has helped me become who I am today is my older sister, Rachel. Rachel has been coaching at Pinnacle for about 5.5 years and for the past three or so years, she has been urging me to apply. It took me about a year to get the courage to apply but Rachel kept pushing me and would re assure me that I would like it at Pinnacle and that I had the ability to be a good coach. Now that I do coach, Rachel is always willing to help me out with any sort of coaching advice, especially when it comes to helping me figure out new or different ideas for lesson plans. Without Rachel, there is a good chance I may have not ever become a gymnastics coach. I am very grateful she pushed me to apply.

How does coaching play a role in your every day life?

Coaching plays a role in my everyday life as it has made me realize that everyone is different and is able to learn things at different paces and ways. It has also taught me to be a more positive and encouraging person. It is always better to point out the positives rather than the negatives, that goes for everyday life and coaching too. Another thing I've learned is how big of an impact you can make on some of your athletes. This year I had two of the kids I teach/coach nominate me for the Kindest Kansas Citian. It is an incredible feeling to know that I have made such a positive impact on their lives.

What is something you would love to be able to do more of?

I would love to be able to ride all of the roller coasters in the world and eat more tacos.
