Balancing Acts at Pinnacle Gymnastics

Pinnacle Gymnastics reinvents fitness in Western Shawnee. Children don’t workout the way adults do.  But that doesn’t mean they don’t need a variety of physical activity.  According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services “2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans,” it is recommended that children and adolescents take part in 60 minutes of physical activity every day, including aerobic, muscle and bone strengthening activities. The study also advises that activity be age appropriate, fun, and varied.

Age Appropriate. Fun. Varied.

Morgan Kuchynka has had those ideas in mind since Pinnacle opened in August of 2005.  As one of five children, Kuchynka says that she understands the importance of having a variety of schedule options when it comes to extracurricular activities.  Kuchynka began gymnastics after attending a trial class with a friend.  She began competing at the age of seven and competed through 9 seasons peaking at Level 10.  Following her competitive career, Kuchynka coached gymnastics throughout high school and college.  Even before earning her business degree from the University of Kansas, Kuchynka began planning to open her own facility.

“I opened my own facility because I believed I could provide a unique gymnastics experience to the Kansas City community.  I believe in having a recreational program that teaches kids to love the sport of gymnastics while reinforcing academic and developmental concepts during class partnered with a team program for those that find gymnastics is their true passion.”

Love. Developmental. Team.

Now, with three children of her own (Grant 2008, Adam 2010, Reese 2012), Kuchynka tries to provide programs the whole family can enjoy year round. One advantage of gymnastics is that children can begin at an early age.  As young as 9 months, they can do simple moves with their parents and by age 2 ½ can be on their own in a class.

Benefits don’t stop there. Gymnastics provides a foundation for all sports.  According to USA Gymnastics, some skill and health benefits achieved through gymnastics are coordination, speed, focus, agility, rhythm, and self-confidence.

Nothing builds confidence quite like wondering if we can do something, and finding out we can.
